“Project N Gauge” Begins

As Ditcheat Junction gets ever closer to completion and its first exhibitions early next year our next project has begin. As yet the layout doesn’t have a name so will continue to be referred to as “Project N Gauge” until the layout develops it’s personality.

The baseboards have taken a few various shapes, the initial attempt was a roundy roundy set of boards laser cut ourselves from 3mm ply. These turned out not to be quite as rigid as we would like so we reverted to more traditional baseboard construction and changed the shape to make baseboard building more straightforward.

The layout will consist of a scenic front portion based around a junction and loops in a rural, countryside setting probably loosely based on somewhere on the Great Western Mainline with a multi line off scene fiddle yard to the rear.

The photo below shows part of the process of planning the track layout and measuring loop design to hold a 9 + 2 HST, a Pair of IETs or a load 11 freight train. This will give us plenty of choice of running and interest for spectators should the layout make it to the exhibition circuit.

We’ll be posting our progress as we go so keep checking back.
